FOR GREATER PEOPLE’S PARTICIPATION 

IN THE CITY BUDGET PROCESS

The objective of this prayer and advocacy rally is to inform the public on the importance of people’s participation in crafting the city’s budget as the most important piece of local legislation passed in a year. Moreover, it seeks to:

• Call the executive department to look into creative ways of disseminating the budget and opening up the preparation process to the grassroots level in the next round. 
• Call the legislative department to institutionalize a broader mechanism where people’s organization can directly contribute and prepare priorities, which the budget should reflect. We call for the creation of a People's Council. 
• Call the people to exert their influence on the budget process.

The youth of the city took upon themselves to mobilize and to deliver a point to the public that crafting a people’s budget requires the cooperation of all members society and not just the business of both camps in City Hall. This is also a tremendous educational opportunity for the young to immerse in collective action for a common issue for the common good – greater participation in the crafting of the city’s budget.
