BANGSAMORO BASIC LAW YOUTH CARAVAN

BANGSAMORO BASIC LAW YOUTH CARAVAN

The nation is at a crossroad.

Bringing to life the promise of our island is beginning to unfold with the Bangsamoro Basic Law. For so long, the conflict in Mindanao brought about by historical injustices feeds itself in a vicious cycle of poverty, inequality and lack of opportunities. A fundamental structural change is necessary in order to break this cycle and build stronger institutions for the Bangsamoro.

The Bangsamoro Basic Law is the fruit of the years of struggle and negotiations between the different stakeholders in Mindanao. Finally after thorough deliberations from its Annexes to the drafting of the basic law itself, we are seeing hope that indeed we can build lasting peace in our beloved Island.

In this light, the Muslim Youth Council is taking the initiative together with he ONE-CDO, AYLIM, B35, affiliates of the Oro Youth Development Council to conduct a citywide Youth Caravan on the Bangsamoro Basic Law on the month of January to March.

The Youth Caravan has two phases. The first phase aims to visit at least 4 big colleges and universities around the city. The second phase aims to conduct at least 4 community-level advocacy drives in the different barangays of the city.

The main objective of this caravan is to raise the level of awareness on the content and implication of the Bangsamoro Basic Law among the youth. It also aims to increase their sense of ownership and stake in building a lasting peace in Mindanao.

The youth should take great strides in insuring that they do not only only inherit an peaceful island, but also become active players today in building a more just and equitable Mindanao.
